SPRINGHEAD Libs are off the mark in the D&J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League.

After five failed attempts, they claimed their first points of the season in David Giblin division one with a thrilling 4-3 win at Parkside.

At the other end of the table, Fitton Hill extended their lead thanks to an 8-3 victory at mid-table Red Star, while Royton Athletic staked their claim for promotion after a 4-2 defeat of Wellington ‘A’, who were relegated to the bottom after Libs’ win.

Meanwhile, Wellington ‘B’ have folded in division two and their record will be expunged.
Steven Caine FC maintained their title push with a 5-1 win at home to Northside and North Star edged out Waggon and Horses 4-3 in a basement battle.

Coppice United, leaders of the Jack Abbott premier division, continued their quest for Challenge Cup glory after they defeated High Crompton CC at the second attempt.

The score was 2-1 to United, who saw their advantage cut to a point after Royton FC brushed aside Oddies 5-2.

Failsworth Dynamos are moving into contention, and they did their goal difference no harm with a 12-0 demolition of Shahjalal Unity.

Chaddy End FC are also in the argument, although they had to work hard for their 3-2 success over Avro under-19s.

Without a win since November 8, they put VC United to the sword in an emphatic 11-0 scoreline.

The win lifted Oldham into sixth spot, two places above Oldham Victoria, who were held to a 2-2 draw at home to VIP FC.

Santos AFC, who were returning from a seven-week absence, were beaten 4-0 by Tintwistle Villa.

A goal adrift at the break, Santos created chances to equalise, before their fate was sealed in the second half.

In division ‘C’, Oldham Victoria reserves maintained their push for the title with a 3-2 win at Parrswood Celtic.

AFC Oldham’s second string recorded a 1-0 victory at Stoconians thirds, while Santos reserves conceded a late goal as they were held to a 3-3 by Moorside Rangers.

And in division ‘D’, AFC Oldham thirds drew 1-1 with Mellor fourths.

Then there were five as Britannia fold
THE Ashton Sunday League have been hit by a hammer blow.

Britannia have folded, leaving only five teams in the premier division.

League officials have blamed a lack of interest from players for the club’s demise. Britannia’s record will be expunged.

Meanwhile, Warwick United have taken over top spot in the premier division.

An emphatic 7-1 win over Springbank, coupled with Halfway House’s surprise 3-1 defeat at Bridge, saw United leap into the lead role.

Foran (two), Wolfenden (two), McKenzie (two) and Chambers scored for Warwick, while Pennington replied for Springbank.

Bridge, who had King (two) and Walsh on target, are close up in third place but House, with two games in hand on United, remain favourites for the title.

Wellington climbed to second place in division one after a 3-1 victory over Charlestown.

Hill (two) and Kershaw weighed in with the Wellington goals as they narrowed the gap on table-topping Dog and Partridge to three points.

A hat-trick from Schofield, plus a Mills double, helped Falconers to a decisive 7-2 success over basement boys Anglers, for whom Marsh responded with a brace.

Home Guard are still unbeaten after they recorded their fourth draw of the season against Manor.

They two teams shared six goals, with Slicker (two) and Melvin on the mark for Manor, while S Cooke (two) and N Cooke were Guard’s sharp-shooters.

HEYSIDE Juniors under-13s are one step away from a place in the Manchester County Cup final.

Simon Hall’s side are through to the last four of the prestigious competition after a 6-3 defeat of Kippax.

On target for Heyside were Corey Eastmond (two), Ben Holmes (two), Craig Henry and Michael Pass.

Defeat dents title hopes
FAILSWORTH Dynamos’ title hopes in the Lancashire Amateur League premier division have suffered a hammer blow.

Looking to stay on the heels of leaders Old Boltonians, they instead slipped nine points off the pace after a 3-1 defeat at local rivals Chaddertonians.

Striker Danny Proffitt bagged four goals as ninth-placed Oldham Hulmeians returned to action with a 6-1 win at Roach Dynamos in division two.

The visitors, who hadn’t played for seven weeks, enjoyed the perfect start as a header from Sean Evans and Proffitt’s close range strike gave them a 2-0 lead, although Roach replied before the interval.

Proffitt made it 3-1 with a near post finish early in the second half but Hulmeians had to wait until the last 10 minutes to emphasise their superiority. Proffitt added two more while substitute Steve Shalmani also got in on the act.

Dynamos reserves had much better luck as they overcame Little Lever SC ‘A’ 4-2 in division three.

Meanwhile, Hulmeians Reserves cemented their place at the top of division six with a 2-1 win over Old Mancunians ‘B’ at Tate Street. Chris Hope scored both goals.

In division seven, Jonathan Hardisty found the net for Hulmeians ‘A’ in a 4-1 home defeat to Horwich RMI ‘A’, but Chadds ‘B’ defeated Bury GSOB ‘B’ 5-1.

ANDY KREMNER struck four times and Shaun Chapman notched a hat-trick as Medlock Rangers under-16s beat AFC Clayton 9-1 in the East Manchester Junior League.

Joe Heap and Luke Kolowiski got the other goals.

Simon calls Royton tune
SIMON ATKINSON hit a hat-trick as AFC Royton returned from a two-month lay-off to record a 4-0 win over Donkey Dodgers in division two of the Rochdale On-line Alliance.

Danny Cole broke the deadlock on the half-hour, before Atkinson took centre stage.

HARLEQUIN suffered their biggest defeat of the season when they were mauled 7-1 by premier division pacesetters Weavers Arms.

Tony Roberts scored the consolation goal, which just happened to be a first-half equaliser, but it was all Weavers after that.

Chaddy End lead goal rush
THERE were goals galore on the opening night of the new Failsworth five-a-side Super League at the Lancaster Club.

Chaddy End brushed aside Mostonians 9-1, San Antonio posted a 7-1 success over Crompton and Royton and Bobblehead beat Fairclough’s Farm 4-1 after the two teams were level at half-time.
