Royle look to close in on crown
Date published: 23 January 2009
ROYLE will virtually clinch the Inbev Winter Bowling League’s ‘A’ division title tomorrow should they beat Hopwood in a 9.45am showdown.
The leaders on Chadderton Cot’s artificial surface have a 17-point advantage over second-placed Hopwood, who have a game in hand.
But should Hopwood register a convincing win, then it would be all to play for during the final three weeks of the season.
At the other end of the ‘A’ division table, Springbank and Lees/Springhead know that whoever loses their 2.15pm fixture will be favourites for relegation.
Weekend fixtures —
Tomorrow, ‘A’ Division): 9.45am, Royle v Hopwood; noon, Radcliffe v New Street; 2.15pm, Springbank v Lees/Springhead.
Sunday, ‘B’ Division: 9.45am, Tonge v Failsworth; noon, Vixens v North Chadderton; 2.15pm, Prestwich v Dogwood.
TONGE will miss out on a trip to St Helens this summer after British Plate announced their withdrawal from crown green bowling’s strongest league.
British Plate have pulled out of the Manchester Premier League and several of their top players have joined Wigan outfit Garswood Hall.
Plate’s decision has handed an unexpected lifeline to Huddersfield side Longwood, who lost their place in the Premier League last season after finishing bottom and losing a play-off to new applicants Railway BC of Congleton.
