Ryan sets sights on area crown

WATERHEAD potting machine Ryan Duffy continued his rise up the snooker ladder with success in the latest North-West under-16s ranking competition.

Ryan, who will be 16 in May, has his sights set on the NW title which will be decided over four events.

His victory in the first of them in Bolton was emphatic as he won all three of his round-robin matches before recording 2-0 successes in both the semi-final and final. The teenager’s highest break in the competition was 42.

Ryan, who has been playing snooker since the age of 10, is the nephew of the Oldham area’s leading player, Michael Wild, with whom he sometimes practices.

His next assignment is in Leeds this weekend when he competes in the England under-16 and under-18 tournaments.
