Red-hot Rawstron sets tone for town team

DAVID Rawstron produced a brilliant display of throwing as the Oldham men’s darts team defeated St Helens 8-2 to strengthen their hold on top spot in the premier division of the Lancashire GMC Super League.
Rawstron was back to his best as he won his match 3-1 with legs of 15, 12 and 16 darts, including a 121 check-out.
And his average of 97.57 for every three darts thrown saw him land the man-of-the-match award by a country mile.
Lee Williams was also in sparkling form, winning 3-0 in 17, 17 and 20 darts, averaging 87.50.
The other Oldham winners were Mark Thompson (3-1), John Morton (3-0), Dave Yates (3-0), Chris North (3-0), John Downs (3-0) and Peter Connolly (3-1).
Oldham have 80 points from their nine league games while second-placed Rochdale Borough have 69 from nine and Eccleston 66 from nine.
Oldham have a lengthy wait until their next match at Blackpool on Sunday, March 1.
JOHN Downs will be in action in the Manchester Federation Log End Board Championships at Lightbowne Liberal Club, Moston, on Sunday.
Each of the Federation’s leagues held a knock-out and Downs was the winner of the Moston qualifier.
OLDHAM women’s team registered a 4-4 draw with Lancaster in the premier division of the Lancashire GMC Super League.
Oldham’s winners were Alison Bennett (3-0), Tracey Hindle (3-0), Shereen Downs (3-0) and Louise Simmonds (3-1).
Oldham are in action at Fleetwood on Sunday in the Lancashire team knock-out, a competition they have won in the past.
