Talented Brown keeps up his perfect record

OLDHAM and Royton’s Chris Brown maintained his 100-per-cent record in the fourth and final race of the South-East Lancashire Cross-Country League at Heaton Park.

The talented young runner won the under-11 boys race in five minutes 47 seconds.

Luke Brierley had a good run in sixth place (6:26), and he was followed by Joseph Kershaw, who was ninth in 7:03. Jack Pritchard was 11th in 7:29, A Taylor 12th (8:08), C Baird 13th (8:34) and A Wiseman (14th) in 9:53 as the team finished first on the day but second overall in the league.

In the absence of Adam Howard, who had already won the under-13s league title following three first places, Rob Smith led the team home in second place in 14:55.

Next was Conor Colleavey, who was third in 15:56, Jamie Burrows was sixth in 16:27, Nathan Hilditch seventh (18:13) and Christopher Hague ninth (18:38).

The team finished second on the day, but won the under-13 boys team category.

Howard was followed home by Smith in the individual rankings, followed by Burrows (fifth), Hilditch (sixth) and Hague (ninth).

In the under-11 girls’ race, Megan Whitworth ran well for eighth place in 7:12 to finish eighth overall.

Leah McDonald was ninth in 7:31 and N Hornby 11th in 7:59.

In the under-13 girls’ race Layla Bramall finished 14th in 19:14, with Lucy Kershaw in 15th in 19:33 and Karla Hopkinson 17th in 27:30.

E Hook was eighth in 19:34 in the under-15 girls’ event.

Mike Smith produced a great run to win the under-15 boys’ race in a time of 13:44. He claimed second place overall.

Jacob Ragan finished strongly to take second place in 14:13 and was third overall. D Everitt was seventh in 15:20.

Curtis Atkinson ran well in the under-17 boys’ race to come home fourth in 18:44.

Jane Augsburger completed a great series by winning the under- 17s race in 17:50 to take the overall title.

Andrea Baker had another good run in sixth place in 21:26.

In the senior men’s heat, John Hudson continued his return to form with 36th place in 42:47.

He was followed by Daniel Timperley, who was 38th in 42:59, which confirmed his 10th position overall.

Brian Schofield finished in 51st place in 44:53, with Darren Mannings 61st in 46:49.
