LEADERS Glodwick were surprisingly beaten 6-4 at Honeywell Lane A in the Oldham Table Tennis League. Wins by Steve Barber (3) Adam Rowbotham (2) and Tommy Ryan (1) gave Honeywell victory.

Honeywell B had an easy 10-0 win at Hollinwood E keeping them in the promotion chase.

The Failsworth C juniors of Andrew Tarpey (3), Paul King (2) and Callum Jones (1) beat the experienced Unison C 7-3, Frank Sheldon winning two for Unison.

OLDHAM’S women’s team won the Lancashire & Cheshire Table Tennis League by one point after beating Manchester, the eventual runners up, in their final game by 5-1. Mandy Winskill, Karen Hill and Doreen Schofield made up Oldham’s winning team.

The A team could muster only two players for the final day’s matches due to the commitment of their players in the Manchester Schools tournament which was run the same day.

Natalie Dodd and Sarah Weatherby played well but without Rebekah and Abigail Griffith their task proved too much, although they achieved a respectable mid-table position.
