Mossley braced for more blanks

MOSSLEY are bracing themselves for another week without football at Seel Park.

After postponing two home fixtures in the last 10 days, the Lilywhites face a further spell of inactivity.

Tonight’s home UniBond League division one north game against Woodley Sports has been called off and Saturday’s trip to Newcastle Blue Star is a major doubt unless there is a thaw this week.

Saturday’s postponed home quarter-final tie in the President’s Cup against Retford, leaders of UniBond League division one south, has been rearranged for next Tuesday.

Last Tuesday’s cancelled home game against Trafford has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 24.

A week earlier, on Tuesday, March 17, Mossley play hosts to New Mills in the semi-finals of the Manchester Premier Cup.

Mossley were in action on Saturday, even though their President’s Cup tie was postponed.

They hurriedly arranged a friendly on the artificial surface at Wright Robinson Sports College against Glossop.

The Lilywhites won 2-0 with goals from midfield pair Matty Kay and Danny Self.

Former Rochdale trainee Kay was making his debut having been signed from Salford City to reinforce the midfield following the injury losses of Daryl Weston and Chris Hirst and Ryan Cook through work commitments.

CHADDERTON’S postponed First Division Trophy second-round tie at Bootle on Saturday at least provided some cheer for the Broadway club.

It ought to save them a trip to Merseyside after Bootle were forced to surrender home advantage.

The four-times postponed tie has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous with Chadderton forced to give up home advantage after the cup clash was twice called off on their ground.

And it has now been switched back to them after Bootle were unable to stage it on two occasions.

Chadderton will lose three points tomorrow if Darwen are wound up following a court case the crisis club is not contesting.

That will mean their results will be expunged from the league’s record books which includes a 4-3 defeat at Chadderton in September.

Oldham Town will be unaffected as they have not played Darwen this season.

Chadderton midfield player Ian Knapman is in line for an award after picking up seven man-of-the-match prizes for the Broadway club this season.

The Vodkat NWCL runs a league table and Knapman is in third place with seven awards from 16 games. The current leader is Abbey Hey’s Daniel Heffernan who has nine prizes from 23 appearances.
