THERE were no shock results in the latest round of badminton fixtures in the Oldham & Rochdale Badminton League Open Division One as the top teams continued to dominate.
Dons remain unbeaten and are clear at the top of the table after winning both of their most recent fixtures.
Firstly they visited Littleborough where they took a commanding 6-1 lead, thanks in no small part to an impressive win (15-3) in the first game by Pete Ramsden and Neil Tuersley.
Littleborough showed a lot of fight as they tried to overhaul the league leaders, but eventually succumbed to an 11-4 defeat.
Dons next fixture was another away trip, this time to Balderstone. Amit Chowdhury and Brian Dearden won Balderstone’s only game (15-13) as the Dons steamrollered their way to a 14-1 victory.
Elsewhere, Lancashire Racquets ‘A’ produced an impressive performance to beat Lydgate 13-2. The match was close in the early stages but the home team then won eight in a row to record an emphatic victory.
Littleborough faced another unbeaten team in Tara and started well as debutants Phillip Worthington and Michael Golding won their first game (15-10). But the ability of Tara began to show as they went on to win the final seven games to record an 11-4 victory.
Saddleworth ‘A’ remain top of Division Two despite not playing for several weeks.
Meanwhile, in the same division, Lancashire Racquets ‘B’ celebrated a hard-fought victory over Spotland.
A back-and-forth encounter saw the score remain close throughout as Spotland’s Steve Kelly and Sharon Harding won the best game of the match (15-13)
Racquets ‘B’ then pulled away thanks to Andrew Trevarrow and Geoff Whittaker who won all three of their matches as Racquets ‘B’ finished 9-6 winners.
