THE accents were unfamiliar as Athletic played hosts to a girls’ football team from America.
The girls from Eastern Football Club, Connecticut, were at Boundary Park for Saturday’s Coca-Cola League One game against Northampton Town.
The 28 youngsters, aged between 12 and 17 years, had arrived the previous day for a nine-day tour in which they play games against girls teams from Euxton, Burscough, Birkdale, Redgate and Mossley Hill.
They are based at Southport and will train at Liverpool’s Academy having established links with the Anfield club through former Reds’ player Ronnie Smith who travels to America each year to coach the girls.
It is the fourth successive year in which the girls from the Eastern Football Club have visited England and two of the youngsters were making their third trip.
They have previously visited Boundary Park and on Saturday will be taking in Manchester United’s Premier League game against Blackburn Rovers.
