CHADDERTON booked their place in the third round of the Vodkat League Division One Trophy with a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Bootle last night.
Paul Socha fired them in front after 17 minutes, but Bootle’s Andy Fowler missed a first-half penalty before Gareth Morris grabbed Chadderton’s second shortly after the restart.
Jamie Rainford pulled a goal back for Bootle after 61 minutes, but Chadderton held firm to clinch victory in a match which had been postponed four times due to the recent bad weather.
Chadderton came from behind to defeat Atherton LR 3-2 at home in the reserve division.
Danny Faye scored twice and John Jones scored the other goal for the Broadway side.
MOSSLEY will hand a debut to three players, including South African under-23 international striker Clive Moyo-Modise, in tonight’s UniBond League President’s Cup tie against Retford United at Seel Park.
Moyo-Modise is a former professional at Rochdale and this will be his second spell at Mossley as he was previously loaned from the Spotland club.
He has returned from 12 months playing in South Africa and been snapped up by manager Chris Willcock. There is a chance it may only be a short stay, however, as Moyo-Modise is having trials at Stockport County and Notts County.
Willcock will also hand competitive debuts to new midfield signings Matty Kay and Craig Buckley.
Kay, the former Rochdale trainee captured from Salford City, made a goalscoring bow in last week’s friendly win against Glossop.
Buckley is the most recent recruit having been signed from Ramsbottom United for whom he was also captain. He had previously been a professional at Bury and also played for Flixton, Salford and Hyde.
Willcock has allowed young striker Gareth Chew to join Oldham Town on loan.
The Mossley manager says the new signings are needed to bolster a squad which will again be without four regulars through injury - Graham Kay, Daryl Weston, Chris Hirst and Alex Mortimer.
Willcock said: “We have had nine home games postponed as well as a number away.
“We still have possibly 24 games to play and we will need all the bodies as we will be playing twice a week every week between now and the end of the season - and it could even be three, or four times each week.”
