UPPERMILL edged out Woodhouses by the narrowest of margins in the Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League.

The Leafields outfit scraped home by one run in the group ‘B’ clash after they were set 265 to win.

Woodhouses, who lost six wickets, were grateful to Emily Ball (15) and Daniel Donegan (19), while Harry Lord was star of the Uppermill bowling attack with three for 27.

It was Uppermill’s ability to keep wickets in tact that ensured victory.

Lord followed up with 18, skipper Jake Manton hit 16 and Lewis Barlow made 12 in the successful run chase.

Delph overcame Heyside by eight runs in another close encounter.

Taking first knock Delph’s opening pair of Nathan Jones (16) and William Cotton (11) put on 34.

But Heyside’s bowlers recovered from their shaky start to restrict their opponents to 247 for four. Corey Pearson claimed 2-23.

Heyside would have fancied their chances of overhauling Delph’s total, but soon found themselves up against it after they lost early wickets.

Elliott Mallom and Bradley Flint repaired some of the damage with a stand of 25, and more good batting from Callum Hendrick and Corey Pearson meant that Heyside required 11 from the last over.

But Daniel Jones held his nerve as Delph clinched victory by eight runs.

In group ‘A’, Royton maintained their position at the top of the table with a 30-run defeat of Shaw.

The Holebottom Clough side managed to keep Royton to below 300 for the first time in the competition, but chasing a score of 283 for four was always going to be a tall order.

Ellis Forshaw was the pick of the Shaw bowlers with two for 10, while Aaron Tesz (18) and William Sandiford-Mitchell (21) were among the runs.

Shaw struggled early on, but Matthew Gibson (11) and Ellis Forshaw (six) ensured Shaw finished on a respectable 253 for five.

Royton wicket takers were Tesz, Sandiford-Mitchell, Adam Gray and Harry Greaves.
