Resounding swim win for Royton

ROYTON had an excellent win in the first round of the Manchester & District Team Swimming galas at Hindley.

The 9/10 year boys team, made up of Charlie Baird, Samuel Kinsella, Joe Henderson, Bradley Flint and Alex Crossland-Robins won all their relays - a feat repeated with the 11/12 year boys team of Jack Graham, Bradley Hannah, Josh Ivell, Bradley Ratcliffe, Jacob Kinsella and Thomas Howe.

Not to be outdone, the 13/14 years boys team of Lewis Bostock, Jack Bennett, Luke Graham, Brandon Owens, Luke Kirkham and Chris Thomas won all their events.

In the girls relays, the 9/10 years team of Amber Taljard, Olivia John, Lucy Thomas, Heather Whit and Niamh Nugent had four swimmers competing in their first gala but managed two seconds and a third.

The 11/12 years age group saw Anna Turmeau, Jade Holden, Rebecca Owens, Jennifer Kerr, Alice Kay and Lucy Whitworth came second in each of their races, while the 13/14 girls team, consisting of Jessica Cooke, Fay Taylor, Bethany Wolfenden, Lauren Shaughnessy, Bethany John and Rebecca Ellis, had two wins and a second.

Overall: Royton 87, Hindley and Saddleworth, both on 53, Flixton 52.
