Leaders toppled by junior girls

THE junior girls team of OTTC C had an outstanding 8-2 win over Division 4 leaders Unison D in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.

Nine-year-old Abigail Griffith won two and supported Natalie Dodd (3) and Sarah Weatherby (2) as OTTC moved into second place, seven points behind Unison.

Unison D beat Werneth F 9-1, the same score by which Owls B beat Our Lady’s to remain third .

Honeywell E were held 5–5 by their F team for whom Peter Ganley (3) and Peter Sharples (2) starred, Tom Loftus (2) replying.

The match of the week in Division 1 saw leaders Glodwick win 6-4 at Saddleworth CC A in a titanic match between many of the league’s top players. Mick Moir (2) Mark Ramsbottom (2) and Andy Jackson (1) registered wins for the visitors with Darren Lindley (2) Paul Cichelli (1) and Ian McLean (1) replying.

Second-placed Hollinwood B were 8-2 victors over BAE B and also 7–3 winners over Saddleworth CC A, Tristan Swann trebling in both matches.

BAE A had a 6-4 win over Hollinwood A thanks to Tony Bates (3) and Tom Lang (2) with Simon Hardwick replying with a double.

Division 2 leaders Werneth C had two good wins, beating Uppermill A 7-3 and Hyde YMCA B 8-2 to remain three points ahead of Hollinwood C who beat their E team 7-3 thanks to Dave Cheetham (3) and Joe Redikin (2).

Honeywell B remain in third following a 6-4 win at Werneth D thanks to Barrie Royle (3) and Brian Higgins (2).

Droylsden moved four points clear at the top of Division 4 with an 8-2 win over Unison C courtesy of Myhles Benjamin (3), Tim Greenald (3) and Mike Truter (2).

Coldhurst B moved into third despite a 6-4 defeat at Failsworth C, for whom juniors Andrew Tarpey (3) and Paul King (2) showed up well.

Unison B lost 8-2 to their C team but had a good 9-1 win over Failsworth B thanks to trebles from Paul Whyatt and Glen Jackson.
