MOSSLEY’S chances of making an end-of-season promotion charge in UniBond League, division one north improved after they defeated play-off bound Ossett Albion 5-3 at Seel Park.

And it was a win which was achieved by a depleted side after a number of injuries had been picked up two days earlier in their Manchester Premier Cup semi-final victory against New Mills.

Mossley took a ninth-minute lead through a lob from Reece Kelly, his first goal for the Lilywhites.

But by the half-hour mark, Albion had forged a 2-1 lead through two goals from Dave Syers, the second an unstoppable volley.

Lee Blackshaw made it 2-2 shortly before half time as he sprang the offside trap and just after the restart Mossley edged ahead when substitute Nathan Neequaye charged down a clearance by the Albion keeper and the ball rebounded into the net.

Albion made it 3-3 through a Joe Thornton penalty before Mossley regained the lead when Simon Wood’s deep cross drifted over the head of the visiting keeper.

Mossley sealed victory when Danny Toronczak rounded off a superbly-worked move.

OLDHAM TOWN were held 1-1 at home by Padiham in the first leg of their semi-final in the Vodkat North West Counties League’s First Division Trophy.

Town fell behind in the seventh when Paul Barrott nipped in-between two defenders to score.

Stuart McGill equalised after 16 minutes with a powerful shot that beat the Padiham keeper at the near post.

CHADDERTON drew 1-1 at high-flying Cheadle Town, but ought to have won the first division match in the Vodkat NWCL.

The injury-hit Broadway side fell behind in the opening minute to a goal from Tom Gregory as their defence was caught napping from the kick off.

Chadderton equalised midway through the opening period when Carl Taylor threaded a pass to Paul Socha, who slotted home a low shot.
