LAURENCE Dawson had double success at Werneth.
First he won the March medal with a 74-13-61 to beat John Parnell (79-12=62) by a shot.
Then, next day, he partnered Adie Buckley to success in the Terry Marner Winter League finals with Buckley in particular in fine form to see off Dave Whittingham and Joe Taylor at the third extra hole in the 13-hole matchplay semi-final and then Tommy Dwayre and Jonathan Dooley 2 and 1 in the final.
Dwayre and Dooley had earlier beaten Dave Jones and Terry Walsh, who had topped the Winter League best-five scores table in the chase for top-four spots but could not repeat the success in the matchplay.
CROMPTON and Royton’s team Stableford produced a win for Andy Allen, Chris King, Landy Wild and John Haigh who amassed 76 points.
Runners-up with 75 points were Alan Barrott, Eddie Mooney, Peter Bostock and Andy Clarke while third place went to Mark Sinfield, Steve Sharrock, Steve Oldham and Richard Flynn (74pts).
Grandfather and grandson Derek and Lee Conway remain joint leaders of the Winter League’s Order of Merit with two events still to play.
STAMFORD’S 15-hole singles Stableford produced a five-way tie for top spot.
The places of those with 38 points were determined by a card play off with Derek Johnson emerging the victor from runner-up Alex Barrow.
