MID-TABLE Mossley’s hopes of mounting a late charge into the UniBond League, division one north play-offs are all but over.
The Lilywhites lost 4-2 last night at Skelmersdale United, their second defeat in 48 hours after they were beaten 3-0 at Ossett Albion on Tuesday.
Mossley were confident of victory at Skelmersdale, who had lost their last five games and this week sold 36-goal top scorer George Donnelly to Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle for a club-record fee.
Chris Hirst, who is on loan from Macclesfield Town, scored both goals for Mossley, whose misery was compounded when they had Darryl Weston sent off with the score at 3-2.
Mossley play their fifth game in 10 days tomorrow with a home league fixture against Chorley.
Striker Danny Egan is available after completing a four-match ban and midfielder Christian Cooke is expected to feature after being captured on loan from Hyde United.
