‘A’ team wrap up derby double

OLDHAM RUFC ‘A’ triumphed 19-7 at Aldwinians to complete a league double in division four east.

Yet it was an afternoon which got off to a bad start as lowly Aldwinians grabbed an early 7-0 lead after scoring following an interception try.

Oldham opened their account when scrum-half Phil Graham got on the end of a slick passing move to touch down and reduce the deficit to 7-5.

It was not until shortly before the hour mark that Oldham managed to get their noses in front for the first time.

Nathan Taylor’s break set up Michael Collinge who evaded two tackles to score between the posts, with Simpson again adding the two extra points.

Oldham sealed victory not long afterwards with a penalty try which was awarded when Alan Pierre was dragged down when he was about to receive the ball and looked certain to score. Simpson added the two extra points.

COLTS were punished for a sloppy start as they were beaten 45-36 at home by a depleted Tarleton team.

Much of the damage was inflicted in the first 15 minutes when Oldham conceded three tries.

Oldham eventually sparked into life, but they were unable to claw back the deficit.

Kyle Howard and Jack Taylor scored two tries apiece for Oldham while Brian Massey and Michael Collinge also touched down.

Mark Goodman kicked three conversions.

EXTRA ‘A’ were beaten 30-5 at home by Broughton’s first team who were too powerful for the Manor Park side.

VETS endured further frustration as their league game against Burnley was called off for the second time this season.
Burnley cried off an hour before the scheduled kick off having done likewise earlier in the season only 20 minutes before the start.
