Oldham Central Anglers held their presentation evening at the Bower Hotel, Hollinwood. Left to right: Ben Fisher, Geoff Isaacs, Keith Butterworth, Paul Fisher (club champion), Paul Nield, Kevin Holt (runner up) and George Nield.
IAN COX has had a cracking season on Chadderton Mill lodge and in the last of the Chadderton Mill AC winter league series he didn’t just win, he also broke the match record.
Ian netted a level 68lb of carp and ide that fell to the waggler and maggot fished two foot deep into the middle of the lake.
That pushed the consistent Chris Shaw (Stalybridge AS) into second with his 26lb of carp, chub and ide all falling to the waggler, pole and maggot.
Organiser Lee Humphries (GTI matchman) is never far from the money in these matches and took third with maggot fished up in the water on the pole at fourteen metres and switching to the waggler to catch four carp and loads of ide for 23lb 4oz.
Last week’s winner Graham Mitchell (GTI Gilders) came fourth with two carp weighing 5lb and 7lb plus a chub, hybrid and some ide.
The league title was up for grabs right up to the final match and it was Chris Shaw who came out on top, followed by Lee Humphries, Ian Cox and Paul Hill.
CAIRO AC’s second round of their winter league saw them fishing the trout stream side of Combs Reservoir in poor conditions.
Weights were low, but the water fished pretty consistently with everyone catching.
Mick Jewitt (Tight lines) took first place with his tip and red maggot approach netting him 4lb 3oz of roach and skimmers.
That was the method used by all of the top four with second-placed Darren Jones (Tight lines) also catching roach and skimmers for 3lb 6oz followed by Mick McDonald’s (Gilders) 2lb 15oz and Malc Taylor’s (Gilders) 2lb 3oz.
This week the club fished the third round of the series on the opposite bank of Combs Reservoir and the weather had totally turned around as anglers found themselves fishing in windy but sunny conditions.
Mick McDonald took first place with the tip and red maggot cast thirty metres accounting for his 6lb 15oz of roach and skimmers.
Darren Jones was pushed into second with 6lb 9oz of skimmers and roach followed by Mick Jewitt’s 6lb 3oz of mainly skimmers. Malc Taylor took fourth with 5lb 7oz of skimmers and roach.
The final round of the series is fished on Denshaw Vale next weekend.
SADDLEWORTH and District Angling Society AGM was one of the best ever with a cracking turn-out of members.
The club points out that membership for 2009 needs to be obtained now as some anglers are still fishing with last year’s cards. The club did give a month’s grace but now anyone found fishing without a current membership will be asked to leave the water.

Venue Guide
Rochdale Canal – Warmer weather has seen an increase in anglers fishing this much neglected water. The odd tench have been showing along with roach and skimmers. Bread punch is your best bet for bites, although a few fish are falling to worm and caster.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – SADAS lengths are day ticket with these available on the bank. Ward Lane length is hard with just the odd fish coming out. The middle locks are the place to be for chub and carp that are falling to breadflake, pellet and corn.
Chadderton Mill lodge – A new record for this water with 68lb of carp and ide taken on the waggler and red maggot.
