Mannings leads the way for harriers

TEN Oldham & Royton athletes travelled to Partington for the Trafford 10k over a fast course around country lanes and they produced some excellent times.

Mike Mannings led the team home with a good run in 34:51 for 67th place, followed by Mike Smith the youngest member of the team in 154th place in 40:14. Mike finished just ahead of his uncle Simon Smith who came home in 156th place in 40:25.

Others: Pete Williams 189th position in 42:46,Darren Mannings 203rd in 43:40, Karl Smith in 218th in 44:18, Alistair Mallen, 259th in 46:17, Emily Hughes 261st in 46:25, Mike Kendrick 284th place in 47:24 and Jodie Tinker (298th in 48:18 - pb by seven minutes).


STUART Carroll led the way out of a field of 26 Royton Road Runners in the Dentdale 14.25 mile road-race in Cumbria.

Carroll finished in 12th place with a time of (1:31:25) two minutes quicker than last year. Pushing him all the way were Bernard Cassidy (17th 1:33:15), Dave Kershaw (20th 1:34:10) and Barry Greaves (23rd 1:35:22 and nine minutes better than last year).

Others John Higgins (57th 1:41:09), Robert Kellett (58th 1:41:39), Bryan Lawton (65th 1:42:06), Dave Phillips (72nd and 3rd over-60s 1:43:13), Andy Tyas (86th 1:46:17), Steve Shaw (115th 1:49:14), John Kane (123rd 1:50:33), Debbie Shaw (125th 1:50;50), Sheila Waite (137th 1:51:54), Bernie Goodwin (144th 1:52:34). Lewis Shaw’s time of (175th 1:55:23) was 20 minutes quicker than last year and was followed by Jeff Cordwell (187th 1:56:17), George Meynell (230rd 2:00:53), Teresa Hollins (268th 2:05:21), James Holdaway (282nd 2:07:17), David Smith (290th 2:08:00), Mike Bowler (357th 2:18:42), Neil Barker (388th 2:26:50), Vicky Bramley (389th 2:26:54), Natalie Yates-Bolton (392nd 2:28;36), Julie Greenwood (407th 2:39:32) and Christine Smith (408th 2:39:35).
