DONS continue to impress in the Oldham and Rochdale Badminton League Open Division One as they won three successive matches to remain unbeaten.
Last year’s league champions Alpha Whitworth ‘A’ were the first team to be brushed aside as they were beaten 9-6, despite a brilliant individual performance from Paul Barker.
Next up for the Dons was another home tie, this time against Lydgate. Nick Weston and Martin Spencer didn’t lose a game as Dons dominated from start to finish to win the match 13-2.
Finally, the Dons took on Northern Flight who put up a strong fight before losing 9-6
Balderstone’s final match of the season came against Lydgate. Geoff Schofield and Keith Millington’s impressive 15-1 win gave Balderstone hope but Lydgate showed their quality to win 10–5.
Alpha ‘A’ recovered from their defeat against Dons to secure victory in a hard-fought match against Littleborough (9-6) and they followed up with a 12-3 win at home to Lydgate.
Tara lost ground on Dons when they went down to Northern Flight. The blip proved to be temporary as they got back on track with a 12-3 win over Lancashire Racquets ‘A’.
Spotland had mixed results in Open Division Two, first losing 10-5 to Springhill before recording a comfortable 11-4 victory over Saddleworth ‘B’ who bounced back to beat Alpha ‘B’ 11-4.
