FATHER and son Peter Humphries (Gilders) and Lee Humphries (GTI matchman) took Brookside Fisheries by storm, filling first and third places.

Peter has a good record at this fishery and took sixth the previous day with a level 50lb.

In this match he fished red maggot at twelve metres off peg 23 to catch carp and ide to 2lb for a 57lb final tally.

Second was Mick Plevin with 53lb 12oz, while third-placed Lee Humphries had a fish virtually every put-in with pole and maggot tactics netting him a level 50lb of carp, ide and skimmers.

TODMORDEN AS’s match on Town House saw 20 competitors enjoying some really good sport.

Winner Keith Deacon took 30lb of bream with groundbait feeder and maggot to beat Craig Howarth’s 19lb 7oz catch that fell to the pole and pellet. Graham Mallinson also fished pole and pellet for his 15lb 6oz.

THE final round of the TRI-CAST Rochdale teams-of-four winter league, fished on the Rochdale Canal, couldn’t have produced a tighter finish with just one point separating the top two teams.

Fox Match Red managed to hold on from TRI-CAST Blue,

Individually, it was Frank Szakerley (Fox Match Red) who did the damage with 9lb 9oz of bread punch taken skimmers and bream.

John Leeds was second with caster and bread punch tempting 4lb 11oz of roach and skimmers.

CHADDERTON Mill AC are again running their popular summer series on the club water. The first match is on the first Thursday in May. Draw time will be 5pm with a 6pm to dusk match.

TODMORDEN AS are having on-going work at their Cliviger water with pegs 18, 19, 24, 25 on the top pond being replaced over the next few weeks.

The club are stocking the water with fish due to arrive sometime in April.

Portsmouth Reservoir and New Mill Dam will also receive stockings.

Venue Guide

Rochdale Canal – More anglers venturing out now and tales of a few tench being caught.

Best bait is caster fished at the bottom of the far shelf. Bread punch and squatt for small roach and hand-sized skimmers.

Chadderton Mill – Anything that you put on a hook is catching fish at this incredible water.

Best bet though is maggot fished on either pole or waggler for carp, skimmers and ide.

New batch of fish going in this week.
