Ashton hit for six

CHADDERTON hit bottom-club Ashton Town for six after the Broadway side produced a remarkable second-half display in their Vodkat North West Counties League, first division match.
They won 6-0 with all the goals coming in the second period after manager Paul Buckley had given his side an almighty half-time rollicking.
“We never turned up in the first half when Lee Swanson made two outstanding saves and they also missed two sitters,” explained manager Paul Buckley.
The turnabout in Chadderton’s fortunes was remarkable as they blitzed Town.
Left-back Chris Pauley stole in at the far post to convert a Paul Socha cross to break the deadlock.
Carl Taylor then helped himself to a 15-minute hat trick with headers from a Paul Ashton corner and Daniel Shaw cross and a penalty after he had been fouled.
Substitute Andy Pheby chipped in the fifth goal from the edge of the box and in the last minute Shaw completed the scoring.
OLDHAM TOWN’S Vodkat NWCL, division one promotion hopes were dealt a blow as they were held to a 2-2 draw at lowly Darwen.
And after their home defeat by Darwen earlier this month, the five points lost could have a major bearing on whether they go up or miss out.
On a poor pitch, Town fell behind to a 15th minute goal from Liam McMillan.
Darren Scanlan, relegated to the bench, came on and made his point scoring Town’s equaliser on the hour with a well-struck shot after turning a defender.
James Curley and Tom Hughes went close before Darwen regained the lead after 75 minutes through Paul Postero.
Stuart McGill made it 2-2 in the 86th minute and at the death Darwen were hanging on as Curley burst clear only to shoot straight at the home ’keeper.
MOSSLEY were the architects of their own downfall as they were beaten 3-1 at home by UniBond League, division one north leaders Durham City.
The Lilywhites found themselves 3-0 down after only 17 minutes as they were punished for a catalogue of defensive errors.
Chris Smith fired Durham ahead after nine minutes and that was quickly followed by goals from Matthew Moffat and Steven Richardson.
Mossley were denied a penalty early in the second half when Durham ’keeper Craig Turns even admitted he had brought down Danny Dignan.
Clive Moyo-Modise pulled a goal back for Mossley after 50 minutes with a low shot from the edge of the area.
Mossley were far better in the second period, though their ’keeper James Mann had to pull off a couple of super saves to prevent Durham from winning by a wider margin.
