Whitewash puts ‘C’ team on title alert

OTTC ‘C’ are still riding high in division four of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League after a 10-0 win over bottom team Coldhurst ‘E’.

Natalie Wood is one of OTTC’s in form players, having won 74 of her 75 matches.

Unison ‘D’, in second place, defeated Werneth ‘E’ 7-3, but they appear booked for runners-up position.

Our Lady’s enjoyed a good 6-4 success in a hard-fought encounter against Honeywell ‘F’, while Werneth ‘F’ were convincing 9-1 winners over OTTC ‘D’.

Werneth ‘G’ emerged 6-4 victors against league veterans Honeywell ‘E’.

In division three, Droylsden ‘A’ had a 9-1 victory to stay top of the table, while the division two title is up for grabs.

Werneth ‘C’ and Hollinwood ‘C’ are certain of promotion following 9-1 wins, which leaves Werneth ‘C’ just two points ahead with two matches to go.

At the other end of the table, Grotton ‘B’, who lost 9-1 to Unison ‘A’, face relegation.

Which team joins them for the drop could be decided in this week’s clash between Hollinwood ‘E’ and Pennine TTC.

Paul Buckley was the star for Honeywell ‘B’, recording a hat-trick in the 8-2 defeat of Coldhurst ‘A’.

Glodwick are hot favourites to retain the division one crown — but the race for second place is hotting up.

Hollinwood ‘B’ suffered a surprise 6-4 defeat at Hyde YMCA. Five of the matches were decided in the fifth set.

Rosehill ‘B’ will be playing in division two next season after they went down 8-2 to OTTC ‘A’, and their ‘A’ look certain to join them despite drawing 5-5 against Saddleworth CC ‘A’.

Werneth ‘B’ ran out 7-3 winners over Grotton ‘A’, and Hollinwood ‘A’ achieved a 8-2 victory over Honeywell ‘A’ thanks to a fine display from Gary Newton.
