Hollinwood end badly

HOLLINWOOD rounded off their season with a 68-4 hammering away at Bradford Dudley Hill.

Travelling with only 13 players, it was always going to be a struggle for the visitors in this division four fixture and so it proved.

Dudley Hill, realising that Hollinwood couldn't deal with their big forwards, proceeded to batter away at the visitors' try line. The only bright spot in the first half was a breakaway try from Alistair Williams — but after the break he went off with a broken wrist, while Matty McCullough’s injured back saw him moved out onto the wing as a passenger in the Hollinwood line-up.

It was left to the smallest players in the side to do the majority of the tackling, with Paul Brooks picking up the man-of-the-match award for his efforts. Rick Roberts had his best game yet for the club and Ian Hunt and Rob Penswick also showed up well.

“After early season hopes the season has gone downhill over the past two months,” said Hollinwood club official Fred Halliwell.

“It is mainly due to players not bothering to train, as even at this level of rugby players must be fit to make any progress.”
