Town end bleak run in super style

ROYTON Town secured their first win in seven matches with a 2-1 defeat of Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League premier division title hopefuls Walshaw Sports.

The display totally belied Town’s recent run of form as their hosts were always second best.

Michael Moss put the Glebe Street outfit in front from the penalty spot after a foul on Chris Mason, and he added a second after the break

Town were always in command thereafter, although Sports did pull a goal back in the last minute.

Springhead’s four-match winning run came to an end when they down 3-1 at Wythenshawe Amateurs.

Lee McAllister’s side paid the price for an inept first-half performance, and fell behind after a poor pass from Rick Wild.

The goal knocked Springhead for six and they conceded two more before the break.

A double substitution at half-time revitalised Springhead, who reduced the arrears thanks to a Ben Fletcher header.

But hopes of eating further into the lead were dashed by the excellent Wythenshawe ’keeper.

Springhead will be looking to bounce back against Hollinwood on Saturday.

Paul Bennett’s boys will be in good heart for the local derby clash after a 3-1 win over Elton Vale.

Avro returned to winning ways at home to Hindsford, when a single goal clinched all three points.

In division two, Springhead reserves lost 3-1 to East Manchester, while Royton Town reserves came from behind twice — Anthony Boyle got both goals — to earn a 2-2 draw at home to their Atherton counterparts in division three.

Elsewhere, Hollinwood reserves recorded an emphatic 7-1 win at Breightmet United, but Hollinwood ‘A’ were beaten 5-2 by Wythenshawe Town.
