Town on recovery mission

MANAGER Tony Mills believes Oldham Town have blown their promotion hopes in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League after their 6-0 drubbing at Padiham.

The defeat was the heaviest in five seasons under Mills, and his job now is to pick up his players for tomorrow’s home league game against Holker Old Boys.

Mills, whose side remain fifth in the table, described the size of the loss as an “absolute injustice” and claimed Town were the better team in the opening half.

He said: “You cannot put all the blame on the referee and officials because we should have been more professional, but they were so bad it was embarrassing.

“We were 3-0 down early in the second half, and two of the goals should never have stood.

“I went to three at the back to chase the game as we may as well have lost by six as by three. Padiham simply picked us off for the three remaining goals when our heads had dropped.”

CHADDERTON are targeting another avalanche of goals when they play second-bottom Daisy Hill at Broadway in the first division of the Vodkat NWCL tomorrow.

They defeated basement boys Ashton Town 6-0 last Saturday, with all their goals coming in a devastating second-half display.

Manager Paul Buckley said he gave his side an almighty rollicking at the end of the goalless opening period, admitting his team could have been four goals down.

The turnabout was amazing and Buckley is keen that his side carry on the good work.

Chadderton are at Padiham tomorrow in the reserve division.

MOSSLEY hope to be heading back along the M62 with another three-point haul from tomorrow’s game at Garforth Town in UniBond League division one north.

The Lilywhites triumphed 2-0 at Wakefield on Tuesday night when Danny Dignan and Clive Moyo-Modise were on target against the West Yorkshire outfit.

Mossley have won two of their last three league matches to consolidate their mid-table place.
