CHADDERTON extended their unbeaten run in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League to five matches following their 2-1 home victory against Daisy Hill.
The Broadway side recorded a third straight victory, but not without a struggle against the second-bottom team.
Just as happened the previous week against bottom club Ashton Town, Chadderton produced an awful first-half showing only to come good after the break.
Chadderton fell behind in the 33rd minute to a Nick Swirde header which followed a corner. And they could have been down and out as they were also indebted to keeper Lee Swanson who made a couple of great saves.
Another inspired team talk - rollicking - from manager Paul Buckley inspired a transformation in the second period as Chadderton hit back.
They equalised midway through the half thanks to a Paul Ashton penalty which was awarded after left-back Christopher Pauley was tripped following a brilliant run as he surged past three opponents into the box.
Chadderton snatched victory in the last minute with a superb solo effort from Andy Pheby who ran through from half way, beat the Hill centre half and drew the keeper before slotting the ball home.
OLDHAM Town’s faltering form continued as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Holker Old Boys in the first division.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Town who had enough chances to have won the match several times over, but again lacked a cutting edge.
Tom Hughes hit an upright early on while in the opening period Stuart McGill wasted two great chances and Darren Scanlan fired narrowly wide.
Town continued to force Old Boys back in the second period, but were let down by poor finishing as Kevin Beattie, McGill, Scanlan and John Joyce all had clear-cut openings.
MOSSLEY’S inconsistent run of results continued with a 3-1 defeat at Garforth Town in UniBond League division one north.
It was yet another occasion on which the Lilywhites were caught cold at the start as they conceded two goals in the opening seven minutes to Duncan Williams and Andy Hayward.
A penalty from Clive Moyo-Modise after half-an-hour gave Mossley hope they could get something out of the game.
But Williams sealed victory with three minutes left when he scored his second and Garforth’s third goal.
