Glodwick are just champion

GLODWICK clinched the Oldham Table Tennis League first division title after beating Werneth A 7–3.

Only Darryl Meredith putt up any resistance with three wins for Werneth, including the scalp of Mark Ramsbottom, the new Oldham champion.

Rosehill A were well beaten 8-2 at Hollinwood B, confirming their relegation along with their B team.

In division two, Werneth C and Hollinwood C are promoted, this week beating Unison A 7-3 and Coldhurst A 9-1 respectively.

Uppermill A were convincing winners 9-1 against Werneth D, Mark Simpson and Keith Moores with three wins each, while Hollinwood D and Honeywell C fought out a 5-5 draw, Barrie Royle registering three for Honeywell.

Hollinwood E were close winners, 6-4 against Pennine, thanks to three wins from John Foster, assuring Hollinwood of second division table tennis next season.

Droylsden A and Honeywell D are promoted from division three. Failsworth C with juniors Paul King, Andrew Tarpey and Callum Jones performing admirably, will finish third.

Honeywell D were convincing winners over Saddleworth B 8-2, while

Droylsden beat Coldhurst C 7-3, Miles Benjamin winning three to complete his season with a 97-per-cent record.

Relegation is confirmed for Coldhurst D with Deaf Club A needing only two points in the clash with second bottom Failsworth B to stay up.

OTTC C and Unison D secured promotion from the fourth division.

Unison D need five points from their last game at Deaf Club B to become champions. They beat Owls B 8-2 with three games decided in five, and four decided in four. Ian Connell and Tony Hyde recorded maximums.

OTTC C dropped four sets against Werneth G, which will probably cost them top spot.
