CRAIG Howarth claimed top spot in the Todmorden AS match on Town House.

Using the swimfeeder and corn approach, he pulled in 21lb of small carp.

Paul Wilkinson, the runner-up, had a 12lb 4oz net, which included two good-sized carp and several small ide on the pole and maggot.

Rob McKendry, in third place, opted for the pole, maggot and pellet for 9lb 4oz of chub and bream.

The best fish of the day, a 2lb 8oz bream, was landed by Rob McKendry who, as a result, picked up £35 in pools money after a rollover from the previous week.

The next Todmorden AS match is on Sunday at Croft.

MALC Taylor and John McDonald enjoyed a week’s fishing in Holland, where they were stunned by the quality of sport on offer.

Taylor’s best day saw him net 33 bream between six and eight pounds apiece, which was closely followed by McDonald’s 30 bream haul in the same weight bracket. Now that’s what I call fishing!

ANGLING’S newly-formed governing body, The Angling Trust, has already managed to attract 12,000 individual members and 600 clubs.

This figure does include previous members of the ACA, NFSA and NFA and shows that they are well on their way to hitting their target of 20,000 members in the first 12 months.

LOCAL anglers have been to the fore of late.

Mick Mooney (Tight Lines, Shaw) took third place in a top-quality field at Blundells Fisheries, where he weighed in 39lb 5oz.

Meanwhile, Peter Humphreys (Gilders) continued his good run of form at Brookside Fisheries.

Employing the pole and pellet at 11 metres, he finished runner-up with a 62lb 2oz net of small carp and tench from peg 47 on Snake lake two. Mark Benson won the match with 74lb 4oz.

JOHN Jones took second place in the Brookside Fisheries open, where his 12-metre pole and red maggot approach attracted 67lb 4oz of carp to 1lb.

Conrad Taylor, of Gilders, was third with a level 60lb.

CAIRO AC are on the look-out for new members.

Prices are seniors £10, with OAPs and juniors at just £5. For more details, call Malc on 07846801357.

Venue Guide

Rochdale Canal: Tench and bream are prominent at Boarshaw and Stakehill. Plenty of roach and hand-sized skimmers are falling to bread punch and pinkie. But avoid overfeeding as the water is still cold.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Day-ticket water. The wides are fishing okay, with chub and carp to the fore. Best baits are bread and corn, while some fish are falling to pellet.

Chadderton Mill Lodge: Pole and maggot are attracting ide every put in. Even carp are struggling to get a look in. Ide are really switched on after a fresh stock of fish.

Park Lake: Pleasure anglers are venturing out. Maggot are best for roach.
