DARREN Scanlan was Oldham Town’s derby hero in yesterday’s 1-0 home victory against Chadderton in the first division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

And Town’s triumph ended a run of five games without a win as they remain in fifth place in the table.

The only goal came on the stroke of half time when Scanlan fired home from a tight angle after a drive from Jonny Phillips hit a defender and rebounded to him.

Both teams had shouts for penalties turned down in the second half and Town had chances to win by a wider margin as Tim Buxton’s header hit the crossbar while Damian Schofield also went close with a header.

Chadderton had openings in the second period to claw their way back into the game, but were let down by poor finishing.

Town had started the weekend with a 2-0 defeat at Eccleshall where they had a depleted side and also lost midfield man Stephen Robinson through injury early in the game.

Lee Skellern fired Eccleshall ahead after 15 minutes after poor defending and Sefa Heay netted midway through the second period.

CHADDERTON caused a major upset on Saturday by defeating promotion-chasing Wigan Robin Park 4-0 at Broadway.

Chris Pauley put Chadderton ahead in the ninth minute and this was followed by a double from Andy Pheby as Chadderton established a 3-0 interval lead.

Daniel Shaw added a fourth goal early in the second half as Chadderton produced their most impressive victory of the campaign.

MOSSLEY finished a disappointing Easter empty-handed following two defeats in UniBond League division one north.

They kicked off with a 3–1 home defeat by Colywyn Bay, substitute Ben Richardson netting an 83rd minute consolation after Mossley conceded three goals in the first 24 minutes.

And they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Radcliffe Borough yesterday, Drew Brook scoring midway through he second half.

Mossley had Alex Mortimer sent off and four players booked.
