Royton second in charity run

A GROUP of 29 Royton Road Runners were among the 164 taking part in Rochdale’s Springhill Hospice charity run.

And they achieved second place behind Salford Harriers in the team competition, with excellent performances from Stuart Carroll (8th in 24mins 52secs), Dave Kershaw (12th, 25:23), Bernie Goodwin (14th - 25:37) and Paul Whitehead (16th and first Vet 50 in 26:15).

The club’s strength in depth was demonstrated by five further finishers in the top 30 - Bryan Lawton (19th, 26:52), John Higgins (21st and 1st Vet 55, 27:01), Dave Whittam (22nd, 27:12), Mike Harrison (28th, 27:51) and Dave Phillips (29th and 1st Vet 65, 27:55).
