Rich pickings for Tonge

TONGE moved up the Manchester Premier League table with a 10.5-5 (175-162) victory at Richmond last night.

Gary Ellis led the way with a 21-8 victory, while there were also wins for Thomas Dobson (21-9), Darren Griffiths (21-13), Stuart Mort (21-13) and Mark Dwayre (21-14).

Tonge warmed up for last night’s game with an 8-7.5 (176-164) defeat at South Manchester RBL.

David May won 21-15 on his debut, while the other successful Tonge players were Jimmy Derby (21-13), Ellis (21-10), Mort (21-14) and Griffiths (21-19).

Tonge’s next game is at home to the Railway, Congleton, next Thursday (7.30pm).

TIME is running out for bowlers wishing to enter this year’s Oldham Evening Chronicle Handicap.

Only the first 64 entries will be accepted and the first qualifying night, Friday, June 5, is proving particularly popular.

Heats for that evening will take place at Nimble Nook and Royton, while the other qualifiers will be held on the following Friday, June 12, at Crompton and Delph.

The finals will be held at North Chadderton SC on Saturday, July 11.

JUNIOR bowling tournament, with added prize money of £100, will be held at Stalybridge and Dukinfield Recreation BC on Sunday, September 27.



Open to players 16 or under on the day of the competition, the JBO Trophy, sponsored by Joe Bradbury, costs only £2.50 to enter and is limited to the first 32 to register.

THERE are vacancies in the £3,000 Moorside Classic for July 24 and 31, and August 7 and 14. The finals will be held on August 21.
