WATERHEAD coach Mick Slicker is hoping to finish the season with a flourish.

A campaign that has seen a huge turnover in players comes to an end with the team’s final National Conference League division two game at home to Egremont Rangers tomorrow (2.30pm kick off).

Having claimed the Standard Cup on Good Friday, Slicker says there is a buzz around the club once again.

“We have changed things round a lot this year and it was something we needed to do,” said Slicker, who is waiting to see if he is to be given the nod to carry on with the job again next season.

“At the start of the year we set ourselves three goals: to finish mid-table, to beat Saddleworth in the Standard Cup final and to get together a young, fit team.

“We may have fallen short in the league but overall we are definitely making progress.”

In division one, relegated Oldham St Anne’s aim to carry on where they left off in midweek.

Though eventually defeated 28-22 at home by league leaders Ince Rose Bridge on Tuesday night, Saints gave the visitors a big fright late on in the game by scoring 18 unanswered points.

Mick Cashin’s men again have home advantage tomorrow, against another promoted side Widnes St Marie’s (2.30pm).

Saddleworth Rangers are at home to Castleford Panthers in division one (2.30pm) and will aim to shake off the disappointment of losing out on their chance of promotion by going down 20-16 at Stanningley on Tuesday.
