Saddleworth League round-up
CAREER-BEST figures from Uppermill's James Baron deprived Heyside of a flying start to the new Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League season.
The spinner bagged eight for 76 from his 15 overs as last season's runners-up slipped to 196 all out in reply to 252 for five.
Baron wrapped up the Heyside innings with three wickets in four balls. Heyside, without professional Roelof Hugo, were 174 for four at one stage.
Last season's top overseas amateur batsman Zeeshan Khan had earlier struck 15 fours and four sixes in superb 113.
Fresh face Simon Marshall made an instant impact for Bamford Fieldhouse, who recorded a seven-wicket win over Shaw at Hollin Lane.
The ex-Lancashire all-rounder claimed three for 51 and scored 55 for the champions. Darren Shadford was unbeaten on 77 for the home side, who restricted Shaw to 150 for nine.
Exactly 100 not out from Richard Baines and Chris Entwistle's 71 guided Moorside to a nine-wicket victory at Friarmere.
The hosts, thanks to an unbeaten 87 from Darren Graham, made 176 for seven from their 45 overs.
Peter Gill carried on where he left off for Greenfield last season.
The veteran, who was the amateur bowling prize-winner in 208, picked up five for eight as Hollinwood crashed to 77 all out at Ladhill Lane. Greenfield reached their target with five wickets to spare.
New professional Junaid Khan, with five for 44, and captain Kevin Du Feu (73 not out) starred for Austerlands in a 13-run defeat of Glodwick at Thorpe Lane.
Meanwhile, Oram Simms and Lou Adair, with 85 and 79 respectively, laid the foundations for Stayley's seven-wicket win at Saddleworth.
The opening pair put on 170 in after the home side had compiled 221 for eight. Stand-in pro Greg Buckley, who is playing for Elland in the Huddersfield League, took six for 59.
