RELEGATED Oldham St Anne’s finished their home campaign on a high by springing a surprise on Widnes St Marie’s in National Conference League division one.

A commanding first-half performance laid the foundations for Saints’ 46-16 win over the promoted side.

Dane English was first over for the home team, only for his effort to be equalised by Danny Yates.

Kiel Lancashire’s high kick to the corner was palmed back by English into the path of John Doherty, Lancashire converting, and further tries from Lee Forsythe, English, Doherty and Ryan Blake, plus two Lancashire goals, put Mick Cashin’s side in control.

Within two minutes of the restart, English completed his hat-trick, Lancashire goaling, before Widnes’ Dave Prescott went over with Craig Millington converting.

Lancashire then crossed for the home side before Blake’s break sent over Forsythe in the corner.

Dave Hewitt opened the scoring for Rangers, only for Chris Mann to level.

Castleford’s Chris Hall replied on the half-hour, Wayne Garwood converting, but winger Hewitt went over twice more to complete his hat-trick, Coates converting both for a 28-10 lead.
