STAMFORD built on their shock opening day win at champions Brookdale with a 6-2 home success over ‘A’ division rivals Werneth.

All team players picked up points with wins for Stuart Fletcher and Andy Earlam (5&3) and Keith Coxon and Guy Hall (1 hole) while Ian Grimsditch and Chris Houfe halved with James Buckley and Adam Rowbotham and Tony Cavanagh and Barry Sidebottom halved with David Whaley and Jonathan Wilde.

Brookdale bounced back from that first-day shocker with a fine 6-2 success at Denton with wins for the pairings of Steve Boyle and Brad Keeling and Pete Buckley and Stuart Meakin and halves for Mark Riley and John Hughes and Mike Taylor and Gary Smith.

Brothers Lee and Matt Merson and Johnny Chaisty and Connor Murphy earned the Denton points.

Two halves were also all that Saddleworth could claim from a 6-2 defeat at Dukinfield through Nick Marner and Andy Dunster and Colin Wood and John Lacy.

And Oldham made the short trip down Lees New Road to Ashton only to be whitewashed 8-0.

Werneth are surprise joint leaders of the ‘B’ division after they followed up a win at Denton with an 8-0 home success over Stamford.

Wins came from Tom Dwyer and John Parnell (4&2), Alan Goodall and David Whittingham (2 holes) and Bob Barrington and Les Jones and Steve Dyson and John Mellors (1 hole).

They share top spot with Ashton, who won 5-3 at Oldham for whom Stan Ganley and Owen Williams, Alex Simmons and Mick Jones, and

Ron Lewis and Steve Ogden all earned halves.

Brookdale were held to a 4-4 draw at home to Denton with home wins for Graham and Gary Whittaker and Paul Fry and Tony Burgin.

And Saddleworth had to settle for a share of the spoils at home to Dukinfield through Denis Lamb and Steve Wild and Steve Baron and Syd Barton.

Week Two results — A Division: Stamford 6, Werneth 2; Ashton 8, Oldham 0; Dukinfield 6, Saddleworth 2; Denton 2, Brookdale 6.

B Division: Werneth 8, Stamford 0; Oldham 3, Ashton 5; Saddleworth 4, Dukinfield 4; Brookdale 4, Denton 4.
