John weighs in

LEES and Hey’s latest match fished on the canal lake at Whitmore Fisheries was for the Whams Trophy and John Warriner topped the weights with his 15lb 8oz of chub and carp falling to the pole and maggot.

That beat Rob Steele’s 8lb 1oz catch which included a massive specimen perch weighing in at 4lb 11oz.

Jim Wild was third with his mixed net tipping the scales at 7lb 14oz, while Alan Steele filled fourth with 7lb 10oz and John Warriner and Keith Adams took the Pairs.


OLDHAM Central Anglers found Cudmore Fisheries hard work with only one double-figure weight coming from pool two.

Organiser Paul Nield took first place with his F1’s, small tench, roach, skimmers and chub all falling to nine-metre pole and expander pellet fished over a small cupful of micro pellets.

Jeff Isaacs took second with a similar net weighing 9lb 8oz and tempted by maggot fished at six metres.

Third best was Malc Taylor (Gilders with his corner peg producing bites throughout the day for an 8lb 15oz catch.


OLDHAM Park Lake is fishing well as Saturday’s Medlock Bridge open match proved with just 2lb separating the top three.

Paul Hughes took the £40 bonus money on top of the £70 pools with his peg on the roadside producing the goods with 13lb 4oz of roach and chub that fell for maggot fished on the pole at twelve metres.

Fred Prudham took second with his waggler and pole approach with maggot on the hook netting him 12lb 14oz of roach and chub, beating Darren Taylor into third with 11lb 4oz.

Steve Clegg took 10lb 7oz of chub and tench on the waggler and maggot.


SATURDAY’S Meadow View Fisheries was won by Conrad Taylor (Gilders) with carp to 8lb making up the 64lb total he weighed in on corn fished over pellet at twelve metres.
Bob Watson was second with 49lb 10oz of carp, followed by Bob Dac’s 43lb 12oz.


Venue Guide

Rochdale Canal – Fishing well for skimmers, roach and the odd tench. Caster for the better fish although double red maggot laid on is catching some decent stamp fish.

Chadderton Mill lodge – Fishing really well with loads of ide and skimmers falling to red maggot fished up in the water. Midweek matches start this week.

Park Lake – Maggot fished on pole and waggler for roach, chub and tench.

Strinesdale Reservoir – Another water fishing extremely well with all species of fish showing.



Diary dates

Every Saturday - Medlock Bridge AC open matches on Alexandra Park Lake. Draw time 9am in the main car park with the match fished 10am to 3pm. Tickets are £15 all in on the day.

Every Tuesday starting May 12 – Diggle AC evening matches on Tanners dam. Draw 5pm, fishing 5.30pm until dusk.

Sunday May 10 – Monarch AC members only match on the club water. Draw 8am, fishing 9am to 2pm.For further details contact Craig on 07947175103.
