Wild, Bold share top honours

Local sport:

STEVEN WILD and Chris Bold couldn’t be separated in the Cranberry AC match.

They returned a level 4lb, with Wild employing the pole short and long with maggot and caster on the hook for skimmers and roach.

Bold’s net was identical, but he used tip and maggot.

Jim Wild was third-best on the day, with his skimmer and roach catch weighing 3lb 8oz. He went for the long pole, maggot and caster approach.

Derek Hudson, in fourth place, had 2lb 4oz of bits on the pole and maggot.

MONARCH AC’s match on the club lodge was tough going.

There was a biting cold wind, which was possibly why the fish decided against co-operating.

Victory went to Eric Hardy, who had a 7lb 4oz carp and some small fish on meat in the margins for a 13lb 13oz bag.

Pete Molloy, the runner-up, opted for the 14-metre pole and maggot, which accounted for ide to 2lb.

He also had roach and skimmers which, added up, tipped scales at 5lb 10oz.

Dave Taylor was in third place, thanks to an ide approaching the 2lb mark together with small roach and skimmers fir a 5lb 6oz total.

The next match is May 24.

IN contrast, the first of the Diggle AC Tuesday evening matches on Tanners Dam produced some cracking weights.

The winner, Paul Vickers, fished the straight lead for 27lb 4oz of small carp to around the 3lb mark and skimmers.

He easily saw off Dave Machin, who used the 13-metre pole and pellet to tempt 12lb 8oz of skimmers up to 1lb 8oz.

Nick Henson took third place with a 10lb 2oz net of skimmers, which were enticed by the 12-metre pole and pellet.

Venue Guide

Chadderton Mill Lodge: It is unbelievable how well this is venue is fishing, with every method you can think of working. Most anglers are using maggot up in the water for ide, with carp also showing. I reckon the fishery match record will be smashed this year.

Rochdale Canal: Despite cold winds, the canal is fishing fine, with pleasure anglers catching some decent-sized specimens. Bream, skimmers, tench and roach are all falling to bread and caster. Pegs at Boarshaw and vinegar works lengths for tench.

Park Lake: Fishing well at the moment. Maggot on the pole and waggler for roach and chub.

Strinesdale Reservoir: Skimmers, roach and some decent perch to the fore.
