OLDHAM booked a second-round date against Saddleworth League side Uppermill in the Barclays Wealth LCB Cup.
They defeated Manchester Association outfit Swinton Moorside 1-0 on a bowl-out yesterday.
Opening batsmen Paul Thompson made the all-important bowling strike after Oldham had batted first and been dismissed for 94 before a downpour ruled out any further play.
Crompton, however, lost 3-1 on a bowl-out to Egerton of the Bolton League after rain curtailed their innings on 79 for three with professional Mohammed Zaman Khan unbeaten on 34 and Danny Taylor on 19.
Uppermill joined Austerlands in round two after they overcame Saddleworth League rivals Moorside in a bowl-out at Turf Pit Lane.
Heavy rain curtailed the visitors’ innings after which the tie was resolved by cricket’s equivalent of a penalty shoot-out.
And it was Uppermill who advanced to the next stage 5-2 .
The elements interrupted Bamford Fieldhouse’s game at Read and they will try again tomorrow evening in a 20 overs per side game.
Austerlands went through as opponents from the Isle of Man, St John’s, were unable to fulfil the fixture.
