Boyle and Boone set ’Hurst on their way

NEWTONHURST have hit the ground running in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance.

Unbeaten in their opening four matches, they lead the way by three points from new-boys Heyside thirds.

Newtonhurst enjoyed a winning draw at Europa Exiles.

Taking first knock, a fine partnership between G Boyle (62 not out) and M Boone (61) lifted them to 190 for five.

In reply Europa, were limited to 148 for six. P Hodgson made a useful 71, and he was supported by M Clarke’s 30.

Greengate, inspired by A Simpson, gathered their first points of the season at home to St Mary’s HC.

The visitors had S Jolly’s 47 to thank for their total of 100 for nine. Simpson was the chief destroyer with figures of seven for 26.

V Clarke compiled an unbeaten 44 when it was Greengate’s turn to bat as they reached their goal with seven wickets to spare.

There was no play at Friends, because of an unfit ground — they were due to play Radclyffe — while Sunday’s game was abandoned after 17 overs with hosts Foresters 110 for three against Heyside thirds. S Steel was 53 not out.

Scores are —

Newtonhurst 190-5 (G Boyle 62 not out, M Boone 61), Europa Exiles 148-6 (P Hodgson 71, M Clarke 30); St Mary’s HC 100-9 (S Jolly 47, A Simpson 7-26), Greengate 101-3 (V Clarke 44 not out); Friends v Radclyffe — no play, unfit ground; Foresters 110-3 (S Steel 53 not out) v Heyside thirds — abandoned, rain.
