LOCAL league bragging rights are up for grabs on Monday when Uppermill, from the Saddleworth League, play host to CLL outfit Oldham in round two of the Barclays Wealth LCB Cup (start 2pm).
The match pits Uppermill captain Matt Taylor against the club where he spent six years.
He said: “The core of the team I played with at Oldham is still there, while I know Paul Jewitt from my days at Delph. I couldn’t believe it when the draw came out. I think we’re favourites, but Oldham are always dangerous when they are the underdogs.”
Both sides reached this stage after bowl-outs.
Taylor added: “I was on the mobile to Chris McDonnell (the Oldham captain) to see how they’d got on after we’d got through at Moorside. They were at home to Swinton Moorside and my best mate Paul Thompson was the only player to hit the stumps.”
This weekend’s fixtures (1.45pm) are:
Tomorrow: Austerlands v Droylsden; Bamford Fieldhouse v Glodwick; Friarmere v Stayley; Heyside v Greenfield; Hollinwood v Saddleworth; Shaw v Moorside. Open date: Uppermill.
Sunday, Tanner Cup, round one: Austerlands v Greenfield; Moorside v Uppermill; Droylsden v Stayley; Saddleworth v Shaw; Bamford Fieldhouse v Heyside. Byes: Friarmere, Hollinwood, Glodwick.
