HEYSIDE did it nine months ago, so there is no reason why they can’t do it again — beat Bamford Fieldhouse in the Tanner Cup.

At stake on that glorious September day was final glory, Sunday’s prize at Hollin Lane is a place in round two.

The two teams were neck and neck for much of last season in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Bamford clinched the title, but it was Mark Barnes’ team who denied them the double.

Inspired by man-of-the-match Nick Campbell — he claimed one for 23 from nine overs and finished unbeaten on 67 — Heyside beat Andy Barton’s boys by three wickets.

Unbeaten in the league so far, Bamford are expected to exact their revenge, but they were red-hot favourites last year.

Heyside have been hindered by the absence of professional Roelof Hugo this season, but the South African has made a welcome return to the fold.

The pick of the other four ties sees Moorside welcome Uppermill to Turf Pit Lane.

The hosts are looking to improve on last season’s efforts when they finished just four points ahead of Sunday visitors in third place.

Uppermill, under Matt Taylor’s leadership, are also seeking to better themselves and are targeting a place in the final.

They met in the Barclays Wealth LCB Cup last weekend, but rain meant the first-round tie had to be decided by a bowl-out, which Uppermill won.

Well-i-Hole plays host to in-form Saddleworth and Shaw.

The home side sit second in the table with three wins from five matches — it should read four out of five but they lost to Bamford despite bowling them out for 127 — while their opponents are on a bit of roll.

Shaw swept aside Droylsden, which was followed by an excellent win over Greenfield, who meet Austerlands at Thorpe Lane.

Austerlands are also on a recovery mission after they slipped to their first defeat of the season at Hollinwood.

Winless Droylsden, who entertain Stayley, will be glad to get a game in at home as their two previous matches at Oakfield were wiped out by the weather.

Meanwhile, Glodwick are hoping paid Imran Aslam can build on last weekend’s century against Uppermill.
