BOB ROWLANDSON has stepped down as secretary of AFC Oldham 2005 following a 37-year association with the club.

The 62-year-old has held just about every position since he first signed as a player in 1972.

At the time the club were known as Clarksfield FC, and have since undergone a number of name changes before acquiring their current title four years ago.

Bob has been the epitome of commitment and devotion to amateur football and, through his efforts, many people have enjoyed playing the game.

His long service with the club was officially recognised by the Lancashire and Cheshire League.

Bob admits it will be hard to relinquish involvement altogether.

He said: “I would like to continue in some kind of advisory role within the club.

“I have had some wonderful times which have brought some wonderful memories, but I feel that the time is right to hand over.”

Bob’s replacement is former Chadderton secretary Dave Ball.

These are exciting times for all at the club as progress is sought both on and off the pitch.

Taking one of the key roles in the club’s future plans is Bob’s son, Andy, in his role of club development officer.

THE Ashton Sunday League is on the look-out for a new press officer after Steve Barrow relinquished the role after 19 years.

Barrow (52), who played in the league for 15 years with Copster Villa, is stepping down because of family commitments.

Barrow said: “There were 36 teams in three divisions when I became press officer and now there are only 12 teams.

“The league needs to address those falling numbers so that it can continue into its next 50 years.”

SPRINGHEAD, missing six regular players, produced a disappointing display in a 3-0 home defeat to champions Gregorians in the Manchester League premier division.

Although the scoreline flattered the visitors, it was typical end-of- season fare with both sides already confirmed as first and second in the table.

Bennett and Harrison went close for Springhead but Gregorians added to their first-half lead with two goals (one penalty) in the last 20 minutes.

TROPHY TIME: North Star produced a fine display to lift the Rochdale On-line Cup. The Rochdale and District Sunday League premier division outfit swept aside Old Bricklayers, from division three, 5-0 in the final. On target for North Star were Matthew Russell, Carl Taylor, Richard Headen, Ben Greenidge and Andy Fulham.
