OLDHAM ‘A’ pulled off a fine 3-2 win over KO Cup-holders Dukinfield ‘A’ in the first round of this season’s competition.

It was a last green success for Steve Daubney and Lee Hollin, the final pairing out on the course, that clinched victory after wins for captain Paul Pattinson and Norman Radcliffe (6&4) and Pete Carruthers and Dave Hewitt (3&1).

League leaders Denton ‘A’ cruised past Werneth ‘A’ 4-1 at Brookdale with wins for Jonathan Chaisty and Dave Hookes (6&5) Barry Harrison and Paul Nuttall (3&2) and Joe King and Phil Hudson (3&2) and Lee and Matt Merson (1 hole). Only Paul and Adam Rowbotham (1 hole) could score for the local side.

Brookdale ‘A’ got a welcome respite from their league troubles by beating Oldham ‘B’ 4-1 at Ashton with wins for Mark Riley and Howard Buckley, Gary Lever and Mike Taylor, Brad Keeling and Gary Smith and Paul Wood and Gary Smith.

And Brookdale ‘B’ made it a club double edging Dukinfield ‘B’ 3-2 at Werneth.

Stamford ‘A’ kept normal order intact when beating their own ‘B’ team 4-1 with wins for Keith Coxon and Guy Hall (2&1), John Strickland and Barry Sidebottom (2 holes), Stuart Fletcher and Andy Earlam (4&3) and Ian Grimsditch and James Woodcock (2&1).

Keith Walker and John Grainger (3&2) were the ‘B’ teams sole success.

And it was a similar story at Saddleworth with the ‘A’ team beating their ‘B’ counterparts 5-0.

The wins came from Nick Marner and Dean Jagger (7&6), Martin Heap and John Knight (5&4), Nigel Cooper and Andy Dunster (3&2), Colin Wood and John Lacey (2&1) and Gary Simpson and Dave Chapman (1hole).
