DENTON have put five points daylight between themselves and the chasing pack in the ‘A’ Division.
They produced a decisive 6-2 win away at second-paced Stamford thanks to Mike Grainger and Johnny Chaisty, Jim Cox and Connor Murphy, Barry Harrison and Paul Nuttall.
They were only denied a full house when Stamford club captain Ian Grimsditch and James Woodcock beat the formidable pairing of Lee and Matt Merson — former Stamford members — on the final green.
Ashton beat Dukinfield 5–3 to make it a three-way tie for second on 27 points between themselves, Stamford and Dukinfield.
Lowly Brookdale were held 4-4 at home by Oldham with wins for Pete Buckley and Paul Wood and Mark Riley and John Hughes. Away points came from Norman Radcliffe and Lee Blainey (2&1) and Terry Kelly and Barry Lewis (1 hole).
In the ‘B’ Division Oldham finally had something to cheer when broke their run of four consecutive defeats with their first draw — and a good one it was too by holding leaders Brookdale.
Stan Ganley and Mick Jones (5&4) and anchor pair Sam Gilbey and Stuart Hanson (5&3) notched for the Lees Road club while for the visitors it was Gary and Graham Whittaker (1 hole) and Barry Hayes and Paul Fry (3&2).
Dukinfield moved on the shoulder of Brookdale at the top with a 6-2 home win over Ashton.
And Saddleworth picked up useful points, winning 6-2 away at sliding Werneth with wins for Denis Lamb and Steve Wild, Dave Taylor and Nick Kerin and team captain John Walsh and Steve Gaynon all on top.
