ALAN Durose and his Werneth team-mate Gareth Lees are in the Lake Garage CLL representative side to play the North Lancs/Cumbria League at Furness on Sunday in the first round of the John Willie Lees Lancashire Inter-League Trophy.

All-rounder Durose is back at the Coppice after spending last season as professional at Moorside in the Saddleworth and District League, while Lees is in the CLL side for his wicket-keeping skills.

WERNETH remain second in the CLL under-18 Whittaker Cup after their six-wicket derby win at home to Oldham.

Oldham were bowled out for 126 and Werneth hit 127 for four in reply.

Royton lost by 14 runs at fourth-placed Clifton after they made 89 for eight in reply to the home side’s 103 for five.

Heywood remain six points clear at the top after an 88-run victory at Walsden, who were shot out for 58 in reply to the Crimble club’s 146 for eight.

Rochdale won by 10 wickets at Littleborough, while Unsworth beat Middleton by six wickets at Towncroft.

Friends’ six of the best

FRIENDS completed a hat-trick of wins in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance’s Tobin six-a-side competition.

They went head to head with in the Heyside in the final and emerged comfortable 73-run winners.

Amin and Riswan led the way with 25 and 23 respectively as Friends amassed exactly 100.

It was a struggle from the start for Heyside, who could only manage 27 in reply.

The competition got under way with teams split into two groups, with the winners going through to the final.

Friends hit the ground running, recording a convincing 46-run defeat of St Mary’s.

Nadeem retired on 25, Amjad added 23 and Rasheed made 21 out of a total of 108. Saints were restricted to 62, with Ferrington scoring 25 and Amin claiming one for three.

Friends booked their ticket for the final with a win against Greengate.

Chasing 74, they achieved their target with an over to spare. Amin retired on 25 and Amjad hit 20.

In the other group, Heyside and Newtonhurst played each other twice because a team failed to show up.

Miller made 24 and Boyle 20 as Newtonhurst scored 57 in the first meeting.

Heyside left it late to achieve victory, Scoltock (20) striking the winning runs off the penultimate ball of the innings. Hall had earlier retired on 25.

In the other game, Newtonhurst made 51 — Potts top-scored with 20 — but it wasn’t enough to stop Heyside from reaching the final.

There was another reason for Friends to celebrate on the day as Amin, who excelled with both bat and ball, was awarded the Howard Richardson Trophy for man-of-the-tournament.

THE finals of the Twenty20 Scoltock Shield and Plate, postponed because of rain last Saturday, will be played in September.

BAMFORD Fieldhouse cruised into the regional final of the Cockspur Cup with an eight-wicket win over CLL outfit Clifton.

Adil Nisar scored 76 in Clifton’s total of 109 all out. Simon Marshall claimed three for 13, while Darren Shadford, Mel Austin and Peter Roberts claimed two wickets apiece.

Shadford and Marshall were unbeaten 37 and 33 respectively in reply.

Next up for Bamford are either Farnworth SC or Bootle.
