WIND and rain greeted Oldham Central AC competitors at Baden Hall Fisheries Lodge pool.

The conditions were tough going, but Dave Barnett wasn’t complaining.

The Gilders rod fished at five metres with paste on the hook to net carp, which included a specimen of 14lbs snaffled just before the whistle, in a 30lb 11oz total.

Barnett’s late show pushed organiser Paul Neild (Gilders) into second place. He had a 19lb 14oz catch, which featured a 10lb carp also on paste close in.

ORGANISER Lee Humphries claimed top honours in the Chadderton Mill AC match on the club water.

The GTI Matchman rod opted for maggot up in the water at nine metres for ide every put in for 33lb 8oz.

Second on the night was Paul Hill (Gilders), who had 30lb 8oz net almost identical to Humphries, and he also used pole and maggot.

Gilders team-mate Fred Prudham had 11lb of silvers on the pole and maggot. He then switched to paste down the edge for two carp adding up to 12lb 4oz and a 23lb 4oz bag.

DAVE MACHIN was first past the post in the latest Diggle AC Tuesday evening match on Tanners Dam.

Switching between meat and pellet at 13 metres, he caught small carp and skimmers for 13lb 6oz.

Martin Taylor (TRI-CAST Highfield) had to settle for second place, with plenty of bits falling to the pole, maggot, caster and pellet to weigh in 9lb 2oz.

A SMALL group of local anglers descended on Staffordshire Fisheries’ Carney’s pool, where they dominated proceedings, filling the top three places.

The winner, Richard Lofthouse of Gilders, had 26lb 11oz of carp on worm and caster on the pole, which broke and forced him to switch to method feeder.

Ian Walvin (Gilders) was the runner-up with his pole, pellet and corn attack netting 25lb 5oz of carp.

ROUND six of the Cairo AC summer series on Denshaw Vale went to Malc Taylor.

The Gilders ace used the pole and bronze maggot to catch 9lb 1oz of bream and skimmers.

Danny Heywood (Tight Lines) was second-best after pole and pellet produced 8lb of bream and skimmers.

Darren Jones (Tight Lines) was third. His pellet tactic took 6lb 4oz of skimmers and bream.

Paul Lord was unlucky. He hooked and played a 20lb ghost carp for 20 minutes, but he couldn’t fit it in his landing net and eventually lost it!

CRANBERRY AC’s match on Fleets Dam saw a win for John Keeley, who returned a meat-enticed 11lb 2oz.

Jim Wild was next with a level 11lb mixed net on maggot.

SEVEN skimmers on pellet at 11 metres from the sand bank was good enough for Steve Hall (Gilders) to win the Cargate pool match.

He tipped the scales at 7lb 11oz to deny Dave Pollitt (Hirst Tackle), who was in second place with two skimmers falling for pellet at 13 metres and some roach on maggot at nine metres for a 6lb 4oz bag.

BOB HARRISON, of Harrison Bros, won the latest Park Lake open match thanks to a good bream, together with chub and roach, for 9lb 1oz off the prime spot, peg 23.

Pete Cuniffe (Gilders) also had a great position, and landed 8lb 4oz of chub and roach on the pole and caster.

The previous week’s Medlock Bridge AC open on the Park Lake was won by Billy Brierley.

He boasted 20lb 1oz of roach and chub on the 13-metre pole and maggot. Peter Hill, the runner-up, had 12lb 13oz of roach and chub on maggot, before a switch to pellet produced a few skimmers and bream.

Venue Guide

Rochdale Canal: Bream and tench are falling to baits fished tight to the bank weed on the far side. Roach and small hand-sized skimmers are tempted by baits down middle to three-quarters of the way across.

Chadderton Mill Lodge: Pleasure anglers are catching up to 70lb of ide in a session. The best method is the pole and maggot up in the water with a polyball float. Paste down the edge is tempting some decent-sized carp.

Park Lake: The pole, waggler, maggot and caster are best for small chub and roach. Pole-fished pellet for bream and tench. Best pegs are 23 and 30.
