NOT OUT: Hollinwood batsman Shahzad Sadaqab survives an appeal off the bowling of Uppermill’s James Baron (far left).
SPEARHEADED by a century from Imran Aslam, Glodwick are up to fifth place in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
The Pakistani professional struck a fine 115 — his second ton this season — as the Warren Lane outfit swept aside basement boys Droylsden.
Aslam, who was the league’s leading wicket-taker in 2008, steered his side to daunting 245 all out.
Visitors Droylsden, still without a win this season, were soon in trouble and, hindered by a back injury to batsman Gareth Dent, were dismissed for 54. Abid Hussain, with figures of six for 12, was the chief destroyer.
Mark Berry carried on his good form after his elevation from the second XI as Uppermill made it back to back wins at Hollinwood.
The former first team captain top-scored with 51 in the four-wicket victory.
Overseas amateur Zeeshan Khan had earlier claimed six for 45 to restrict Hollinwood to 178 for nine.
The home side’s cause was hampered by injuries to leg-spinner Rashid Khan (shoulder) and batsman Mudassar Butt (hamstring), but pro Asif Iqbal bowled well to take four for 51 in the Uppermill run chase.
Bamford Fieldhouse extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points after a 99-run defeat of Friarmere at West View.
Professional Stephen Parry, without a run to his name in two previous innings, hit 60 and overseas amateur Lincoln Roberts compiled 59 in the visitors’ total of 209 for six.
Friarmere were dismissed for 110 in reply, with Simon Marshall claiming four of 26.
Austerlands remain in second after overcoming Shaw at Holebottom Clough —but it was close call despite requiring only 78 to win.
The hosts lost South African pro Warrick Fynn to opposite number Junaid Khan second ball before collapsing to 31 for eight. Khan went on to take five for 29.A late-order rally lifted Shaw to 77 all out — Dave Oldfield picked up the other five wickets to fall for 38 runs — but Austerlands made hard work of victory, scraping home for the loss of eight wickets.
Captain Peter Skuse and Adam Lavin made 55 and 51 respectively as Saddleworth, in third place, amassed 241 for nine against Moorside at Well-i-Hole.
Skuse, who needs one more run to reach 500 runs for the season, then saw his bowlers limit Francis Sutherland’s side to 135. Steven Howard helped himself to five for 20, while opener Richard Baines resisted long enough to compile 52.
Lou Adair (63) and paid man Rehan Rafiq (68) guided Stayley to their second win of the campaign.
The second-wicket pair finished unbeaten in reply to Greenfield’s 155 for eight. The visitors’ score owed much to Mark Lees, who finished 51 not out.
