Peters hits 50 — but to no avail

A FINE 55 from Greenfield’s Alex Peters was in vain as the Lancashire County League, captained by club colleague Adam Hayes, lost their first group game in this season’s Inter-League Colts competition.
Peters top-scored in an innings of 205 against the North Lancs and Cumbria League. Chris Gill, the other representative from Greenfield, was out first ball.
The North Lancs and Cumbria League reached their target with seven overs to spare.
o WITH five wins out of five, Greenfield are leading the way in the under-17s south division in the Lancashire County League.
They maintained their 100-per-cent record with a six-wicket win over Hyde, who were bowled out for 72.
Ryan Fitton (three for 14) and Josh Higgins (two for 14) were the pick of the bowlers, while Chris Gill and Lee Needham made 22 and 24 respectively with the bat.
Dismissed for 52, the under-15s suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat against Denton West, and the under-13s lost by seven wickets after scoring 80 for eight at Dukinfield.
J Nutter and O Higgins made 16 apiece for the Ladhill Lane outfit.
Professionals in place
FOUR more CLL clubs have secured professionals until the need of the season after suffering early-season problems under the new work permit regulations.
They are:
Milnrow – Kamran Younis (Pakistan); Heywood – Brendan Taylor (Zimbabwe); Rochdale – Kash Weeraratna (Sri Lanka); Monton and Weaste - Malinga Bandara (Sri Lanka).
Tribute to Munuwar
GLODWICK Cricket Club paid tribute to one of their most prominent and respected cricketers of the 1990s with a special match.
Munuwar Hussain, who died suddenly last September at the age of 50, was a key figure in the club’s spell in the North Manchester League and it was they who provided the opposition for a Glodwick team which included many of his contemporaries.
The game was attended by more than 100 people and ended in a 12-run win for NMCL (229 all out), despite a superb 89 from Glodwick youngster Imran Khan.

SADDLEWORTH thirds are up with the pace in division two of the Site Electrical North Manchester League.
The Well-i-Hole outfit are third in the table — they sit two points behind table-toppers Littleborough thirds — after a four-wicket win over their Clifton counterparts.
Roytonians are in mid-table after recording a six-wicket victory against Failsworth Macedonia seconds.

OLDHAM under-15s produced a great fightback to defeat Werneth by nine runs at the Pollards.
Alex Pendleton (16) and Ben Davis Rice (21 not out) helped them to reach a respectable 94 for nine, but Werneth looked to be on course for victory with Ali Umar and Zain Tanveer both retiring after scoring 30.
However, Oldham skipper Andrew Joy (three for five) and Phillip Kenyon (three for 15) took the last six wickets to bowl out Werneth for 85.
Oldham under-13s suffered a 45-run defeat at Royton, where the home side rattled up 130 for four. Liam Hodkinson (one for 20) and Phillip Kenyon (three for 30) were the wicket-takers.
Joseph Harrison Brown retired on 25 for Oldham, who were dismissed for 85. Michael Wilkinson (three for nine) and Daniel Stanley (two for 13) were the pick of the Royton bowlers.
