Angling round-up

DAVE POLLITT clinched top-spot in Monday evening’s Cargate Pool open.

The Hirst Tackle rod returned 12lb 12oz of roach and perch on maggot up in the water at six and nine metres. He also had 10 skimmers on pellet at 13 metres.

Despite struggling for the first hour, Bob Harrison (Team HB) still managed to take second spot with 8lb 8oz of small carp and five good skimmers on pellet at 12 metres.

Organiser Steve Clegg, of Saints, was close up in third.

The first 90 minutes went to plan. He landed the odd roach and perch on maggot fished shallow and caught 10 skimmers on 13 metres of pole and pellet.

But then his peg died and he had to settle for 8lb 7oz and a soaking after a heavy downpour.

LEE Humphries, the organiser, won the latest match in the Chadderton Mill evening series.

The GTI Matchman opted for the polyball and maggot attack at 11 metres, which attracted a fish every put-in as ide to 12 ounces made up a 42lb 8oz net.

In-form Paul Hill (Gilders) was second. His peg was full of ide, which he targeted with the 11-metre pole and maggot a foot deep to weigh in 31lb 12oz.

Third-placed Gerry Lees (Gilders) fished closer in at five metres with an olivette rig which took his caster bait straight to the bottom, where he caught 21lb 10oz of ide.

Tackle dealer Gerry Lees donated the pools to the Dave Slattery memorial fund.

CONRAD Taylor, of Gilders, had a cracking weekend at Meadow View.

He won the open match with a nine-carp net on four metres of pole and 8mm pellet down the edge for an impressive 68lb.

FRANK Szakaley was victorious in the Todmorden AS open thanks to 42lb of carp on the method feeder and meat on the hook.

Peter Jackson, in second place, used pole and pellet for 31lb 10oz of carp.

WEIGHTS were good for the Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake.

The top three all returned double figures, with Bob Harrison (Team HB) leading the way.

He had an 18lb 11oz catch made up of skimmers, roach and tench on pellet at 11 metres from peg two.

Billy Brierley (Team HB), the runner-up, employed the maggot approach to tempt a good-sized bream, together with roach, perch and chub for 17lb 7oz.

Paul Hill (Gilders) maintained his fine run of form with a third best 12lb 9oz.

He used the waggler for a few chub, before a switch to the pole, pellet and maggot attracted some chub, roach, perch and tench.

These matches will be fished on Strinesdale Reservoir for the next three weeks because of events taking place in Alexandra Park.

BILLY Brierley (Team HB) was first past the post in the SADAS open match on the Ward Lane length of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

He boasted an all skimmer net on maggot at 11 and 13 metres.

Mark Darbyshire (Tight Lines) was second-best with an all-bream catch also on maggot on the long pole.

Derek Bowers alternated between pellet and maggot to lure 17lb 4oz of skimmers and bream for third on the day.

Venue Guide

Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Fishing well with plenty of skimmers falling to pellet and maggot.

Rochdale Canal: Still some good fish falling to the usual caster, corn and pellet approach.

Chadderton Mill Lodge: Paste down the edge for good carp. Maggot just inches deep are taking massive nets of ide.

Park Lake: Almost any methods and baits taking fish on this day-ticket water. Maggot or pellet on the pole is as good as anything. Waggler and maggot for roach and chub.
